100 Word Challenge for Grown Ups – Week#43

I have to start this week with an apology. I am very embarrassed about it but have to fess up to you all. I am not able to keep up with commenting on all your posts. I have tried but in my defence the children’s 100WC has really taken off. We are getting around 500 entries each week and although I have the excellent Team100 to help me I still have a commitment there.

I have also seen a wonderful rise in the entries for the 5 Sentence Challenge which is for younger writers. That is averaging 150 each time and although it is fortnightly, there is no team backing me up with the comments there. I hope you agree that as these are our very youngest writers, I must continue to support them.

So the result is that the grown ups have missed out. However, you all comment on each others and provide great support so I’m sure that my few words are not missed. I just wanted to explain my absence and say sorry. I did get a comment that one of our contributors was not feeling the love. Do let me know if you feel the same. If you are keen for me to read your work please tweet me (@jfb57) or leave a comment below & I’ll do what I can.

Now, moving onto this week I think we need to get back to basics so the prompt is:

….The flame flickered before….

As usual you have 100 words to add to these to create a piece of writing. You can use any genre. please make sure it is suitable for a PG certificate, please link back here. You can use the badge if you like – just copy & paste this code into  HTML version of your writing box.

If you are in complete fog with all of this please read ‘What is 100WCGU?’. It might help! If not leave me a comment or a tweet ( @jfb57) and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

  1. Sending much love and encouragement for your commitment to the children of the world. Keep up the good work. Your words have shown us your dedication on all fronts, so carry on. We understand.

    BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!

  2. The children definitely deserve the love more than I do. I thought that was why you weren’t coming around so much. Keep nurturing those young writers. They’re the grown up writers of tomorrow.

  3. I think the work you do with the children is so wonderful and, hey, we’re all grown ups so we can cope with being second best! I, for one, love this challenge…I’m off to think!!

  4. Of course we understand! The children need the encouragement and we’re big enough to look after ourselves 🙂

I don’t comment on anywhere near as many of the children’s as you do and I still struggle to visit and comment on as many of the adult ones as I would like. (In my defence I’m hosting quite a lot of children’s work on my blog for your 100WC – 2 complete year groups from a primary school plus 3 individual children… Hopefully the grown-ups will forgive me as well if I miss them out sometimes)

    • Thank you so much Sally-Jayne. I’m sure they will understand. do let me know if the 100WC gets too much. We could set up a blog & give folks admin rights to post their own. Have a think about it.

      • I’m coping OK at the moment. Schools tend to use my blog for a while to try out the 100WC, and then set up their own blog – so far I’ve only had one school at a time which is manageable. If ever I start getting several schools at the same time then we’ll have to have a look at other options, but it’s fine for now.

  5. Perhaps you need a 100WCGU TA (teachers assistant) or PA (personal assistant)! Thanks for at least continuing the challenges. Children are the future authors so let’s make sure they have a running start! God bless.

  6. Hi Julia

I’m only a recent arrival here so I wouldn’t really notice if you didn’t comment, but I think the children deserve it more, and besides, I get the feeling that there’s something of a community building here and it’s for us to comment on (and motivate) each other.

    Simon

    • Welcome to the 100WCGU simon and thank you for your comments. you are right – it is not for one person to lead (other than me setting the prompts) you can and do support each other.

  7. Well done for all the work you have put in. You have established a great community both here and with the young people. As you say we can look after ourselves while knowing that you have the odd peep and I hope you continue to post. I certainly know how you feel as I am so far behind with comments I don’t think I’ll ever be able to catch up – who knew that blogging would be so time consuming! Thanks Julia 🙂

  9. I think you’re doing a great job :). You might be busy but a community has been created to spread the love amongst each other. Besides, children and teenagers need all the encouragment that they can have. And these prompts are a huge assistance.

  10. You must have your work cut out with all that you’re involved in. No worries from me if you don’t comment.
I noted Susan’s comment that she commented on thirty last week and only got 5 comments back. It’s a shame when that happens. I’ve been trying to comment on all of them since I joined, though occasionally I miss late submissions. So I prioritised yours this week Susan! 🙂
I just wanted to say that for the next few weeks I’m on the canals and rivers of France with a limited and unreliable internet connection. So if I don’t comment, please don’t think I’m being unresponsive. I will of course, endeavour to comment on those who commented on mine, which is only fair, I think.

  11. Goodness, you do such a lot with this, the 100WC and the 5 sentence challenge! Agree with the others- the 100WCGU is building into a great team where we support each other’s efforts. I visit and comment on as many as I can .
The children’s one has to take priority; we grown ups can look out for each other!!
I will try to leave some comments on the 5 sentence one too; there are some great writers out there.
You do a FAB job 😀
