My Week – 19th December

Although we were at home, it still felt like a week with lots in it.

It started with our decorations going up. Over the past few years we have changed the ‘theme’ and we now have a red and white feel to the tree. however, this decoration has stayed with me since I was little so it is VERY old!

Hubby has been struggling with trapped nerve in his neck so another visit to our wonderful chiropractor Leiza sorted him out. He visits her regularly and she helps make sure he can keep playing football at 58!

We went to Canterbury for the week-end and stopped in Westerham for cake ( well it was a holiday so had to be done, right? It’s a small town near Chartwell, the home of Sir Winston Churchill so hosts a wonderful sculpture of him on the green. Clive of India also has a statue on the green so it is an area steeped in the history of two of the country’s famous chaps.

As it is Christmas there are a couple of jolly shots – lights and Morris men entertaining in Canterbury. How are you preparations going for Christmas? All ready?

13 Challenges – #12 / 11 Luke

Another in the 13 Challenges series. Check out the tab at the top for full details!

Meet Luke!

He is an amazing pianist who I love to bits! He plays in various establishments in Canterbury. We used to have a second home int he City which we visited monthly so we know this young man very well.

One of my favourites ‘toons’ is Van Morrison’s ‘Moondance’ and whenever we see Luke he plays it for me. The last time we saw him I decided to have a go at videoing on my phone. It is not that good but gives you a flavour of Luke and the Dolphin, which is the pub we were in.

You can see hubby buying him a drink and at the end hear me clicking my fingers – a must for this music!

Enjoy!

13 Challenges – #6 / 4 Canterbury

Visiting Canterbury, is like going home for us. Up to a  few years ago we had a second home here. The reason behind having it was to make our trips to see Gillingham FC play football a little less fraught. They weren’t very good and it was a long way home when they had lost!

The city is the home of the Cathedral of St Augustine and this is where for many people Christianity really started in England. If you look closely, you can see the arch to the cathedral here.

Canterbury is full of cobbled streets (much like York) and has a very ‘olde worlde’ feel despite there being the usual modern shops and traders.

It has some wonderful restaurants, great pubs and a really interesting riverside walk to go on. There is also the Canterbury Tales to see, a re-telling of Chaucer’s great tales among many other sights.

The photos are not the usual ‘tourist’ ones. You must visit and take your own!

13 Challenges – #12 / 2 Virginia

Meet Virginia.

She has been a friend for around 10 years. We met when we bought a second home in Canterbury. As you will know hubby is a supporter of Gillingham football club and we decided we would buy a property to save us the travelling back and forth.

Virgina was our eyes and ears between our visits and we became close friends. She has since moved to Cheltenham which is not far from us so we like to get together for lunch occasionally. She is a very active lady who puts us to shame with all the things she does. As an example, she had never been abroad until she was 75. She now travels extensively in her mid 80’s!

…and yes – she is that tiny!

A Few Days Away!

As those of you who follow my blog know, I’m a governor at a couple of schools. The end of term had been extremely busy so OH & I decided to have a few days away to gather our thoughts & have a bit of a rest.

We based ourselves in Canterbury, a favourite haunt of ours (used to own a second home there!). We were only away for 3 nights but managed to pack a huge amount in! Continue reading
